Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – MISC Berhad, a global leader in energy-related maritime services, has been awarded a significant contract for the provision of a Floating Production Unit (FPU) for the Kelidang field, located offshore Brunei. The contract was granted by PCBL, a joint venture between Brunei Shell Petroleum Company Sdn Bhd (BSP) and other stakeholders, to support the development of Brunei’s oil and gas resources.

The award signifies a major expansion of MISC Berhad’s offshore capabilities and reflects its strong position in the energy sector. This project will involve the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of an FPU, which will be pivotal in facilitating the extraction and processing of crude oil from the Kelidang field, one of Brunei’s most promising offshore assets.

Key Contract Terms and Timeline

Pursuant to the Letter of Award (LOA), the term of the charter for the FPU is set at 12 years, beginning from the date of performance acceptance by PCBL. Under the agreement, PCBL holds the option to extend the charter for up to three additional one-year periods, providing long-term operational stability and flexibility for both parties.

The FPU is expected to commence operations in the first half of 2029, marking a critical milestone in the development of the Kelidang field. The unit will be responsible for processing crude oil produced from the field, which will then be transported to shore for further refining and distribution.

Strategic Implications for MISC Berhad

This award highlights MISC Berhad’s continued focus on expanding its offshore energy capabilities and its ability to manage large-scale, long-term projects. The company is known for its extensive expertise in offshore oil and gas services, including the provision of Floating Storage Units (FSUs), Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRUs), and now, Floating Production Units (FPUs).

The Kelidang FPU contract also reinforces MISC’s role in supporting Brunei’s oil and gas industry, which remains a cornerstone of the country’s economy. MISC Berhad’s involvement ensures the successful and efficient development of offshore projects, leveraging advanced technology, innovation, and a robust safety culture.

Sustainability and Innovation

MISC Berhad is committed to aligning its offshore projects with its broader sustainability goals. As part of the FPU’s design and operation, MISC plans to integrate energy-efficient technologies and low-emission solutions, ensuring that the project meets international environmental standards. The company aims to reduce the carbon footprint of its operations while improving energy efficiency across its portfolio.

In addition to its environmental efforts, the FPU project will be developed and operated with the highest levels of safety, in line with MISC’s stringent health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. This approach is vital not only for the success of the project but also for the safety of the personnel involved and the protection of the marine environment.

Long-term Partnership with Brunei Shell Petroleum

The partnership with Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP) is a testament to MISC Berhad’s strong relationships within the region’s oil and gas sector. The collaboration is expected to further strengthen MISC’s position in Southeast Asia, with opportunities for additional projects in the future. This new contract is a continuation of MISC’s long-standing relationship with BSP, which has been instrumental in the successful execution of various energy projects in Brunei and the surrounding regions.

“We are excited to have been awarded this important contract, which represents another significant step in our journey towards becoming a leading provider of integrated energy transportation and offshore solutions,” said MISC Berhad’s CEO. “Our long-term commitment to Brunei’s energy sector, along with our dedication to sustainability, positions us to contribute effectively to the country’s ongoing development and energy production needs.”

Looking to the Future

As global demand for energy infrastructure continues to grow, MISC Berhad is well-positioned to meet the challenges of a rapidly evolving energy landscape. The company is continuously investing in new technologies and innovative solutions that will shape the future of offshore oil and gas production, both in Asia and beyond.

With the FPU project set to commence operations in 2029, MISC’s involvement in the Kelidang field will continue to play a key role in driving Brunei’s energy industry forward, while also benefiting the local economy through job creation, skill development, and regional growth.

As MISC Berhad moves forward with the design and construction phases of the FPU, it remains focused on ensuring the project is delivered on time, within budget, and with the highest operational standards, paving the way for future growth and success in the global offshore energy market.
