BW Offshore and Equinor Sign FEED Agreement for Bay du Nord Offshore Oil Development
BW Offshore has officially signed a Front-End Engineering and Design (FEED) agreement with Equinor for the highly anticipated Bay du Nord offshore oil project, located in the Newfoundland and Labrador region of Canada. This significant step follows BW Offshore’s selection as the preferred bidder for the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, reinforcing its commitment to the development of this major energy project.
Key Milestone in Bay du Nord Development
The FEED phase is set to begin immediately and will run through to the end of 2026, further maturing the FPSO design and refining the overall project execution plan. This phase is critical in preparing for a potential final investment decision (FID) scheduled for 2027. It will focus on establishing key project details, including finalizing the delivery schedule, advancing commercial agreements, and securing major subcontractors and vendors.
Throughout the FEED phase, BW Offshore will also work closely with Equinor to develop a robust local content plan. This will ensure that the Bay du Nord project aligns with local economic benefits and regulatory frameworks like the Atlantic Accord and the Frame Agreement.
Commitment to Local Collaboration and Job Creation
To support this vital offshore project, BW Offshore has established a local office in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, and appointed a Local Benefits Manager. This strategic move ensures that the development remains aligned with local stakeholders, authorities, and the regional supply chain. The office opening is slated for early June, providing a platform for ongoing dialogue and collaboration.
The presence of the Local Benefits Manager will facilitate smooth interactions between BW Offshore, Equinor, and key regional partners, ensuring that local businesses and workers benefit directly from the Bay du Nord development.
BW Offshore CEO Marco Beenen’s Statement
BW Offshore’s CEO, Marco Beenen, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “The signing of the FEED agreement is a pivotal milestone for the Bay du Nord project. We are excited to continue working closely with Equinor, local authorities, and regional stakeholders to drive this project forward and ensure its long-term success.”
What’s Next for the Bay du Nord Project?
With the FEED phase underway, all eyes are now on the next steps in the development of the Bay du Nord offshore oilfield, one of the most promising projects in Canada’s energy sector. As the project progresses toward the final investment decision in 2027, it will continue to generate significant opportunities for the local economy and provide long-term energy solutions for global markets.
