SLB OneSubsea Wins Major Contract for Eni and PETRONAS’ Kutei North Hub Offshore Project in Indonesia

SLB has secured one of the offshore industry’s largest subsea infrastructure awards after its OneSubsea™ joint venture won a contract from Eni North Ganal Limited, a subsidiary of Searah Limited, the joint venture between Eni and PETRONAS, to supply a steel tube umbilical system for the Kutei North Hub field development offshore East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The contract supports the Kutei North Hub project, one of Southeast Asia’s most significant deepwater oil and gas developments, and further strengthens SLB OneSubsea’s position as a leading provider of advanced subsea production systems for complex offshore projects.

Under the agreement, SLB OneSubsea will engineer, procure and manufacture approximately 94.6 kilometers of steel tube umbilicals designed for installation in water depths of up to 2,200 meters. With a total system weight of around 6,700 tonnes, the project ranks among the largest umbilical contracts awarded globally, reflecting the scale and technical complexity of the Kutei North Hub development.

The umbilical system will be manufactured using SLB OneSubsea’s advanced production approach, integrating its Oscilay™ and planetary manufacturing lines. The parallel manufacturing process is expected to improve production efficiency, shorten delivery schedules and support faster project execution compared with conventional single-line manufacturing methods.

According to SLB OneSubsea Chief Executive Officer Mads Hjelmeland, the award highlights the company’s ability to combine engineering expertise with innovative manufacturing technologies to help operators execute complex offshore developments efficiently while maintaining high standards of reliability and performance.

Designed for demanding deepwater operations, the umbilical system will operate at a design pressure of 10,000 psi. The project also includes the manufacture of a single continuous 30-kilometer umbilical weighing approximately 2,100 tonnes, requiring specialized large-capacity carousel facilities for production, handling and storage.

The Kutei North Hub development represents a key investment for Eni and PETRONAS in Indonesia’s offshore oil and gas sector. Located offshore East Kalimantan, the project is expected to play an important role in unlocking deepwater resources while supporting Indonesia’s long-term energy production and regional gas supply.

The award also reinforces the long-standing collaboration between SLB, Eni and PETRONAS in delivering complex offshore developments. As operators continue to invest in increasingly challenging deepwater projects, advanced subsea technologies and large-scale infrastructure such as high-capacity umbilical systems remain essential for improving operational efficiency, reducing project timelines and maximizing production reliability.

With the Kutei North Hub project moving into its execution phase, the contract underscores continued investment in Indonesia’s offshore energy industry and highlights the growing importance of deepwater developments in meeting future regional energy demand.
