Halliburton has secured a major integrated well construction contract for the GranMorgu deepwater development offshore Suriname, strengthening its role in one of the most significant offshore energy projects in South America.
The contract, awarded by TotalEnergies, covers a long-term drilling and completions program for the GranMorgu project, with Halliburton providing integrated well construction services powered by advanced digital technologies, automation, and real-time operational monitoring.
The award marks another milestone for the GranMorgu offshore development, which is expected to become one of Suriname’s largest oil production projects and further expand the country’s position as an emerging offshore energy hub.
Halliburton to Deliver Integrated Well Construction Services for GranMorgu
Under the agreement, Halliburton will provide a fully integrated execution model that combines drilling planning, engineering, completions, digital workflows, and operational execution into a single platform.
The company said the approach leverages automation, remote operations, and real-time data analytics to improve drilling performance, optimize well placement, accelerate project delivery, and reduce the overall cost of well construction.
According to Halliburton, integrating surface and subsurface operations enables greater operational efficiency while helping maximize hydrocarbon recovery across the GranMorgu development.
Digital Technology to Improve Offshore Drilling Performance
The company will deploy advanced digital technologies throughout the project, including:
- Integrated digital well construction workflows
- Real-time drilling and completions monitoring
- Remote operations centers
- Automation-driven execution
- Data analytics for drilling optimization
These technologies are designed to improve operational consistency, enhance safety, reduce non-productive time, and increase delivery assurance during complex deepwater drilling operations.
Halliburton Highlights Collaboration on GranMorgu Project
Franco Delano, Vice President for the Caribbean at Halliburton, said the contract demonstrates how integrated execution, collaboration, and digital innovation continue to improve performance on complex offshore developments.
He noted that the GranMorgu project showcases the value of aligning engineering, planning, and field operations to safely deliver wells while maximizing long-term asset value for customers.
Investment Supports Suriname’s Local Energy Industry
Beyond offshore operations, Halliburton said the project includes significant investment in Suriname’s local energy infrastructure and workforce development.
Working alongside local suppliers, the company upgraded its liquid mud and cement facilities while supporting construction of Suriname’s first advanced drilling and completions workshop equipped with modern maintenance and repair capabilities.
Halliburton also plans to prioritize local hiring and supplier participation throughout the project, supporting skills development and economic growth within Suriname’s expanding offshore oil and gas sector.
GranMorgu Project Establishes New Industry Collaboration
Halliburton said the project also represents the first global alliance involving Halliburton, TotalEnergies, and Noble on the GranMorgu development.
The collaboration is expected to streamline project execution while establishing a new benchmark for integrated offshore well construction in deepwater environments.
As development progresses, the GranMorgu project is expected to play a central role in Suriname’s growing offshore oil industry, with Halliburton providing the drilling, completions, and digital technologies required to support long-term production.
