Bluewater Energy Services B.V. has been awarded a contract for the delivery of an export CALM buoy system offshore Cotonou, Benin. In January 2019, Benin and Niger signed a bilateral agreement on the construction and operation of a pipeline transportation system for hydrocarbons.

Ultimately, the Transport System will allow crude oil from both Niger and other countries to the international market, thus making Benin a hub for crude oil exports.

The pipeline will boost Niger’s daily oil production from 20,000 barrels to 100,000 barrels in 2023 and to 200,000 barrels over the long term, according to forecasts. It will thus have to hoist the country among the main oil producers in Africa.

The works are being undertaken by the West Africa Oil Pipeline Bénin Company (WAPCO Bénin) which is a subsidiary of the China National Oil and Gas Exploration and Development Co. (CNODC), itself a subsidiary of the China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC).

1980 km long, including 685 km in Benin, the pipeline will link Agadem site to the port of Sèmè. Two pumping stations are planned, namely one in Gogounou and the other in Tchatchou. The project also provides for the installation of an offshore export CALM Buoy terminal at Sèmè-Kpodji, delivered by Bluewater Energy Services B.V
