Job Summary

The Mechanical Project Engineer will participate in the design development and modification of various structures, equipment and systems for repair, maintenance, conversion, refurbishment, and upgrades to mobile offshore drilling units. Position duties include development of layouts, scopes of work and procurement specifications, vendor expediting, and resolution of engineering issues arising in a global fleet of floating drilling units. Responsibilities also include accurate scheduling, budget preparation, communication and presentations. International applicants will be considered.

Key Roles & Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with vendors to assure all company standards, regulatory & classification body’s requirements are met in all cases of equipment maintenance, overhaul, fabrications, installation, and repair.
  • Provides support to operations staff, shipyard teams and marketing staff in response to technical queries and coordinates resolution as required, including coordination of drafters and technicians to ensure the quality of the design criteria is met.
  • Review engineering drawings and calculations are in compliance with Classification and Regulatory Rules & company standards and ensure adequate standards of safety are incorporated. Perform inspections, attend and document tests and acceptance of construction work, drilling and mechanical equipment to ensure compliance with approved drawings, workmanship, regulatory standards and contract & maintenance specifications.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with vendors, OEM’s and workshops. Monitor equipment repair, track progress and equipment delivery dates.
  • Assist the Project Manager in solving scheduling, engineering, design and analysis problems.
  • Maintain dialog and interface with other mechanical specialist groups in the Company including, Engineering, Field Support etc.
  • Monitor class / regulation requirements / company standards / safety alerts and bulletins for all relevant equipment.
  • Review rig maintenance records as it pertains to assigned scopes of work to identify improvement opportunities and deficiencies.
  • Monitor all local vendor performance and costs.
  • Work within the Project team to plan a complete Shipyard SOW within a fully integrated schedule.
  • Identify and procure any parts needed for overhauling equipment upfront and have available for project start up.
  • Monitor/ track budget awarded to the mechanical assigned SOWs.
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or relevant/equivalent experience
Experience
  • 5+ years relevant work experience with drilling contractor, marine contractor/engineer, consulting engineer, equipment manufacturer
Skills
  • Must possess relevant computer skills, including knowledge of specialized engineering software suites used in the department for problem solving.
  • A good understanding of ABS, DNV, API, and related industry regulations and standards is required.
  • Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be capable of simultaneously managing multiple tasks and coordinating the efforts of others contributing to solutions to engineering problems.
  • Must exhibit effective written and oral communication skills.
  • The individual must be able to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Should be a self-starter and able to take initiative as required.
Additional Duties
  • Working Conditions – the position requires an individual to travel and work away from home location, at worksite locations such as onboard rigs, in shipyards worldwide and on occasion Corporate Offices. The position will be required to work more than 40 hours per week, including weekends.
Pre-Requisite/Qualification:
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must successfully complete pre-employment background check.
  • Must pass an extensive Medical Evaluation due to global travel requirements.
