Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, an intermediate holding company of Hyundai Heavy Industries Group, succeeded in winning an order for six ships worth a total of 8,370 billion won.

Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering recently joined four overseas shipping companies, two 174,000 cubic meters (㎥) class LNG carriers, 3 91,000 cubic meters (㎥) class ultra-large LPG carriers, and one 300,000-ton class ultra-large crude oil carrier (VLCC). It was announced on the 21st (Mon) that it had signed a construction contract for Chuck.

The LNG carrier ordered this time is 299m in length, 46.4m in width, and 26.5m in height, and will be built at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and delivered to ship owners sequentially by the second half of 2023.

This LNG carrier is equipped with an LNG re-liquefaction system that further enhances economic efficiency by re-liquefying boil-off gas generated during operation.

Orders continued for other ship types as well. The super-large LPG carriers ordered this time will be built with dual fuel propulsion engines, two at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and one at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do.

One super-large crude oil carrier equipped with a scrubber will be built by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries in Yeongam, Jeollanam-do, and delivered to shipowners by the second quarter of 2023.

An official from Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering said, “Ahead of the enforcement of environmental regulations by the International Maritime Organization, inquiries about eco-friendly ships are continuing.
