Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced on the 11th (Friday) that it had recently signed a contract with a shipping company in Asia and Oceania to build one 22,000 cubic meter (㎥) class LPG carrier and four 2,800 TEU class container ships.
The LPG carrier ordered this time with a length of 159.9m, a width of 25.6m, and a height of 16.4m will be built at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard in Ulsan and delivered to ship owners in the first half of 2024.
The container ship is 186m long, 35m wide, and 17.4m high, and will be built by Hyundai Mipo Dockyard and delivered to ship owners sequentially from the second half of 2023. By applying the LNG dual fuel propulsion ready design to these ships, they can respond to the tightening environmental regulations of the International Maritime Organization.
According to Clarkson Research, a shipbuilding and shipping market analysis agency, global LPG carrier orders are expected to reach 54 this year and 57 next year.
An official from Korea Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering said, "Inquiries continue to be made across various types of ships, including gas and container ships.
