Harbour Energy’s Indonesia entity Premier Oil Andaman Ltd has announced initial results from their Timpan-1 exploration well.

In 2018, PGS acquired a 9 276 sq. km 3D MultiClient GeoStreamer survey over open and held blocks in the basin. Harbour Energy was a major prefunder of the program, which used the latest PGS multi-component 3D acquisition and imaging technology. This significantly accelerated the exploration timeline for the operators in the area.

Harbour Energy’s press release stated that the Timpan-1 well is located 150 kilometers north of the Island of Sumatra in the Andaman Sea, Indonesia, in a water depth of 4 245 feet. The well was drilled to a total vertical depth of 13 818 feet subsea. The well encountered a 390 foot gas column in a high net-to-gross, fine-grained sandstone reservoir with associated permeability of 1-10 mD. A full suite of downhole logging including wireline, a drill stem test and 240 feet of core was recovered. The success at Timpan-1 will de-risk other prospects from the block and the discovery bodes well for continued opportunities in the region.

Gary Selbie, President Director of Harbour in Indonesia, said about the project, “We are encouraged by the result of this play-opening exploration well. We look forward to working with our partners and the Government of Indonesia to determine the potential for commercialization of this important discovery.”

PGS would like to congratulate Harbour Energy on their discovery, and we look forward to seeing their continued prosperity in the area.
