Our Lady Safely Sets Sail for Brazil

We are pleased to share that thanks to the efforts of everyone at the yard, as well as those working on shore, our lady safely set sail on March 28 from the Singapore yard for her resident Libra field in Brazil. A tremendous effort from all teams throughout the project was necessary to deliver such large scale and complex project. In fact, more than 19.9 million man hours were worked (without a lost time injury) during conversion of the vessel. From everyone at Teekay, we wish our lady calm winds and following seas and best of luck for all our crew onboard!

LIBRA FPSO ARRIVES IN BRAZILIAN WATERS

May 18, 2017

FPSO Pioneiro De Libra Will Be the First to Produce Oil in the Giant Libra Block

We are proud to announce that the FPSO Pioneiro de Libra arrived yesterday May 17 in Brazilian territorial waters. The FPSO unit set sail on March 28 from the Jurong shipyard in Singapore, where the conversion of the unit has been taking place since 2014.

Since the christening of the FPSO, held in December of last year, the vessel has undergone commissioning and sea tests. During this period, more than 1,000 activities were carried out, including inclination and propulsion tests, in addition to other process systems. During the trip to Brazil, other tests were carried out and, upon arrival, the vessel will undergo approval processes by inspection bodies and Petrobras. Then the anchorage and connection of the risers will take place. The first oil is scheduled for July.

FPSO Pioneiro de Libra will be the first to produce oil in the giant Libra Block which covers more than 1,500 square kilometers in the Santos Basin and has estimated reserves of 8-12 billion barrels of recoverable oil. The unit can operate at water depths of up to 2,400 meters, with a production capacity of 50,000 barrels of oil per day and daily compression capacity of four million cubic meters of gas.

More than four thousand people were involved in the project over the last two years, including more than 19 million man-hours of shipyard activities, without a single lost-time injury. We will like to thank all the project team members across all departments for their continuous hard work since the beginning. Well done!

DELTAMARIN DESIGNS THE LIBRA FPSO

Deltamarin Ltd proudly announced that it has entered into a contract with Jurong Shipyard Pte Ltd for the basic engineering of the Libra FPSO (floating production, storage and offloading unit). Deltamarin’s scope of work covers the marine part of the Navion Norvegia shuttle tanker conversion into the Libra FPSO.

The conversion shall be performed at the Singaporean Jurong Shipyard, whose customer is OOGTK Libra GmbH & Co KG, a 50/50 joint venture between Odebrecht Oil & Gas and Teekay Offshore. The joint venture company works as the lead commercial bidder for the Brazilian energy company Petrobras on the Libra project. The vessel is expected to be owned and operated by OOGTK and chartered to Petrobras. It will be serving the Libra presalt field in the ultra-deepwater section of Brazil’s Santos Basin as an early well-testing unit.

The contract guarantees the continuation of Deltamarin’s involvement in the Libra project as the company has earlier participated in the outline phase design of the unit. “We are very happy to be a part of this fast track FPSO project and we strongly believe it will be a success for all parties. This contract shows the market’s strong belief in Deltamarin’s ability to perform in technically complex fast track offshore engineering projects”, says Deltamarin’s Offshore Director Mr Oskari Jaakkola.

The FPSO completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016 and it is planned to start its operations in late 2016. The production capacity will be 50,000 barrels of oil per day and 4 million cubic metres of natural gas per day.

The contract value of Deltamarin’s engineering work is approximately €3.2 M and the work is to be completed during the second quarter of 2015.

Main dimensions of the FPSO:
  • Production capacity 50,000 bbl/d
  • Crude oil storage capacity 650,000 bbl
  • LOA 309.77 m
  • Breadth 50.50 m
  • External turret mooring 9 risers
  • Maximum water depth 2,400 m
Commission for the owner:
  • Bid support for Libra field tendering.
  • The target for engineering was to verify the feasibility of the conversion and provide information for capital expenditure analysis.
  • Basic set of documentation was prepared including general arrangement, conversion specification and stability check.
Commission for the yard:
  • Basic engineering of the hull and utilities
  • Scope of commission:
Structural design
Strength and FEA calculations
Accommodation and HVAC
P&IDs of marine and utility systems
Electrical & instrumentation for hull
Procurement support for main equipment
HSE
  • Deltamarin provided also interface management.
Special features:
  • Very complex fatigue life analysis was performed due to the long service history in North Sea conditions and relatively high age of the vessel.
  • The FPSO will be serving the Libra pre-salt field in the ultra-deepwater section of Brazil’s Santos Basin as an early well-testing unit.
  • The project is a fast track project with only 23 month delivery time.
