Repsol Sinopec Resources UK Ltd. (RSRUK) is planning to extend the Blake field in Block 13/24a in the Central North Sea (CNS). The Blake Field was originally developed by BG in 2000, when six production and two injection wells were installed and tied back approximately 9 kilometres (km) to the Bleo Holm FPSO which was located over the Ross Field. The Blake field has been operated by RSRUK since 2014, when BG divested its equity to RSRUK and its partners. RSRUK is operator of the Blake field under Licence P297. The proposed Blake infill wells will extend the life of the Blake asset until at least 2024.
The Blake field will be extended by the drilling of two infill wells (B2z Attic and NW1) adjacent to the existing Blake manifold, the top-hole locations of which lie at 58° 10' 27.857" N, 1° 22' 43.164" W and 58° 10' 28.175" N, 1° 22' 40.150" W, respectively. The new Blake infill wells will be tied into the existing Blake subsea manifold and production routed to the Bleo Holm Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) located in Block 13/29 at position 58° 07’ 00.11’’ N, 01° 24’ 01.23’’ W, along with existing Blake fluids, via the existing 9 kilometre 12 inch pipeline (PL-1830) and 8
inch riser. The Bleo Holm FPSO lies 56 km from the Scottish coastline (Fraserburgh) and 190 km from the UK / Norway median line.
At the time of ES submission, drilling rig selection has yet to be finalised however RSRUK can confirm that the drilling rig selected will be a semi-submersible type. This type of rig uses an eight chain anchor pattern to remain in a fixed position whilst drilling. The exact mooring pattern and rig orientation will be determined nearer the time based on the seabed conditions, currents, water depth and prevailing winds at the proposed well locations.
Both wells are being drilled to maximise recovery from the Blake field and will be drilled close to the top of the Captain Sands reservoir. It is
proposed that geo-steering will provide the optimal means of achieving this objective. It is proposed that both wells will be drilled with water based mud (WBM), with cuttings from the top sections discharged directly to the seabed, and subsequent sections returned to the rig via a marine riser, with mud reclaimed from cuttings, the cuttings cleaned and then discharged to sea via a caisson located just below the waters surface.
The Bleo Holm FPSO does not require any significant modifications to prepare it for accommodation of fluids from the Blake infill project. The project topsides scope is limited solely to the modifications required to control and chemical injection systems to handle the additional Blake infill wells. The expected hydrocarbon from the Blake infill wells is oil with associated gas.
