End of FLNG Gimi Force Majeure Events
01 Oct 2020
Golar LNG Limited (“Golar”) announces today that Gimi MS Corp., a subsidiary of Golar, has confirmed a revised project schedule with BP Mauritania Investments Ltd. (“BP”) for the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim project. The revised project schedule will result in the target connection date for the converted floating liquefaction natural gas vessel Gimi, previously scheduled for 2022, as set out in the Lease and Operate Agreement dated February 26, 2019 (the “Lease and Operate Agreement”), being extended by 11 months.
Gimi MS Corp. and BP have now received and given notice to each other confirming with each other the revised project schedule and that there is no FM Event ongoing, as defined in the Lease and Operate Agreement. The terms of the Lease and Operate Agreement are unchanged. The confirmation of a revised project schedule with BP and exchange of notices is expected to facilitate the conclusion of ongoing discussions with both engineering, procurement and construction contractors and lending banks regarding the adjustment of construction and financing schedules, respectively.
Project Background
The GTA field: First gaz field development in Mauritania
The GTA gas field is located at the maritime border shared with the republic of Senegal in water depths of approximately 2800m. In the Mauritanian side, the field is located within block C8 of the Coastal Basin operated by BP. Other partners of the association on the Mauritanian side are Kosmos and SMH, and on the Senegalese side BP, Kosmos, and PETROSEN. The field’s resources are estimated between 25 to 50 Tcf. It is shared between the two countries according to a fifty-fifty starting key.
Phase 1 of GTA
Phase 1 of the field development project has already progressed to an advanced stage with the first gas scheduled for the end of 2023. This phase production will be 2.45 Mtpa of LNG and it has been the subject of a Sales and Purchace Agreement (SPA) signed on February 11th, 2020 between the JV members and BPGM. This phase will also yield a condensate production of up to 6,000 barrels per day.
Phases 2 and 3 of GTA
Phases 2 and 3 of this development project will bring the field production plateau to 10 Mtpa. The philosophy and concept of Phase 2 is being studied and will need to be finalized in the coming months.
