Petrobras signs charter contracts for Marlim

Petrobras reports that it has signed letters of intent (LoI) with the Japanese company Modec (Marlim Unit 1) and the Malaysian company Yinson (Marlim Unit 2), for the chartering of two FPSO platforms. The units will be used in the production development project of the Marlim and Voador fields revitalization - modules 1 and 2, located in the Campos Basin.

The platforms will be installed around 150 km off the brazilian coast, in water depths of approximately 670 meters (FPSO Marlim 1) and 930 meters (FPSO Marlim 2).

The two projects will have capacity to process up to 80,000 bpd (FPSO Marlim 1) and 70,000 bpd (FPSO Marlim 2) of oil and 7 million m³/day (FPSO Marlim 1) and 4 million m³/day (FPSO Marlim 2) of natural gas.

The production start-up is scheduled for the years 2022 and 2023, according to the 2019-2023 Business and Management Plan. The units will be operated and chartered for 25 years.

The Marlim Revitalization Project plans to replace nine platforms currently operating in the Marlim and Voador fields (P-18, P-19, P-20, P-26, P-32, P-33, P-35, P-37 and P-47) with just MODEC, Inc. FPSO Anita Garibaldi MV33 and Yinson's FPSO Anna Nery – the latter being scheduled to start production in the first quarter of 2023.

Revitalization project foresees a 60% reduction in carbon emissions in the Marlim and Voador fields, in the Campos Basin (RJ)

Petrobras expects to reduce by 60% the carbon emissions associated with the production of the Marlim and Voador fields, in the Campos Basin (RJ), as a result of the implementation of the project to revitalize this basin. The strategy consists of replacing the nine proprietary platforms that currently operate in these two assets with two new FPSOs (floating units that produce, store and transfer oil), equipped with technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The revitalization of the Campos Basin is part of the largest recovery project for mature assets in the global offshore industry. With this, Petrobras hopes to add more value to the Marlim and Voador fields, installing the FPSOs Anita Garibaldi and Anna Nery there, capable of producing, together, up to 150,000 barrels per day (bpd). The start of operation of the two platforms is scheduled for 2023.

To implement the new production projects, Petrobras will drill 14 new wells, relocating another 61 - and with the effort to revitalize the reservoirs, the forecast is to generate production gains for the field. Petrobras has incorporated low fugitive emission valves into the new platforms, technology to reduce vented gas from oil storage tanks, in addition to other solutions focused on reducing carbon emissions, further contributing to the environmental resilience of the oil fields. Marlin and Flyer.

Meet the new FPSO Anita Garibaldi MV33

Anita Garibaldi is an FPSO — a floating unit that produces, stores and transfers oil — chartered from MODEC for the development of the northern area of Campo de Marlim.

Technical data of the unit:

- Charter period: 25 years

- Location: North area of Campo de Marlim, within the concession areas in the Campos Basin

- Oil treatment capacity: 80,000 BPD

- Liquid processing capacity: 310,000 BPD

- Gas compression capacity: 7,000,000 M³/D

- Water injection capacity: 390,000 BPD

- POB: 160 people

- 25 producing wells

- 5 production manifolds

- 18 injector wells

- 3 injection manifolds

Campos Basin Renewal Plan

An international hub for offshore technology and the cradle of deepwater production in Brazil, the Campos Basin was a pioneer in innovation and will continue to be, both for decommissioning projects and for the revitalization of mature concessions. Today it is the stage for the largest project to revitalize the world's offshore industry. We plan to install three new FPSO platforms (floating oil production, storage and transfer systems) in the region and connect more than 100 wells in the area over the next five years.

The forecast is to reach, in 2027, a volume of 900 thousand barrels of oil equivalent (boed) in the Campos Basin, with the entry into production of three new systems and investment in complementary projects on existing platforms. This volume represents about three times the production we would have achieved if we had not invested in new platforms and existing systems.

Strategic units for the Campos Basin Renewal Plan, the FPSOs Anita Garibaldi (AGA) and Anna Nery (ANE), which will be installed in the Marlim Field, represent modules 1 (AGA) and 2 (ANE) of the Revitalization Project of the Marlim and Voador fields and together will have the capacity to produce up to 150,000 barrels per day (bpd).

The Anita Garibaldi will produce oil from the post-salt reservoirs of Marlim and Voador and the pre-salt reservoir of Brava, will absorb the wells relocated from platforms undergoing decommissioning (P-18, P-19, P-20, P-33 and P-35). Anna Nery will absorb part of the production from the platforms that are currently being decommissioned in the Marlim field (P-18, P-26, P-35 and P-37). With both in operation, the productive life of these fields will be extended for another 25 years.

The third planned unit is Maria Quitéria, in Jubarte, in the Parque das Baleias complex, in the Espírito Santo portion of the Campos Basin, with a capacity of 100,000 bpd.

According to its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan — which provides for an investment of US$ 18 billion in the Campos Basin — Petrobras has the ambition to add a volume of 20 billion/boe to its reserves, by 2030, of which 5 billion/boe from the assets operated by Petrobras in this basin.

Who was Anita Garibaldi (1821-1849)?

Anita Garibaldi received the title of “Heroine of the Two Worlds”, for having participated in Brazil and Italy, alongside her husband Giuseppe Garibaldi, in several battles. She was an independent and fearless young woman who advocated and enjoyed participating in issues that promoted freedom and justice.

She fought for freedom in Brazil, Uruguay, Italy, Austria and France. The fact that she is a female figure fighting as a soldier, actively and bravely, contributed to giving Anita the importance that her figure has in our history, as she broke the standards imposed at the time.
