Sembcorp Marine’s Brazilian shipyard completes Petrobras P-68 FPSO
Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz achieves milestone with delivery of first FPSO modules fabrication and integration project

Aracruz, Espirito Santo, Brazil, Sep 16, 2019 –

Sembcorp Marine’s wholly-owned and operated subsidiary Estaleiro Jurong Aracruz (EJA) has crossed a significant operational milestone with the completion of its first floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) project.

P-68, a newbuild FPSO vessel, left the shipyard today and will be deployed to the ultra-deepwater Berbigão and Sururu fields in Brazil’s Santos Basin.

The vessel is constructed for Tupi B.V., a consortium comprising Petrobras Netherlands B.V. (“PNBV”), Total Brazil Services B.V., BG Gas Netherlands Holdings B.V. (“Shell”) and Galp Sinopec Brazil Services B.V. (“Petrogal”).

Measuring 316m in length and 54m in width, P-68 will produce up to 150,000 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). It has a 1.6-million-barrel storage capacity and can accommodate 154 persons.

EJA’s P-68 work scope includes fabricating six modules, pipe-racks and a flare, and integrating them on the vessel along with other free issue items. It also executed carry-over works on the FPSO’s hull, which was built by another shipyard.

In completing the project, EJA cements its status as a premier facility in Brazil capable of taking on full engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning work for large-scale offshore projects. It also offers vessel repair and upgrade solutions.

The 82.5ha facility has been operating in the Espirito Santo municipality of Aracruz since 2014 and employs up to 4,400 workers at peak periods.

Besides tapping into the burgeoning local offshore oil and gas industry, EJA with its strategic location on the east coast of Brazil is able to service field developments in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and West African sectors.

EJA President Mr T. Guhan said: “As a Brazilian shipyard with international expertise and advanced capabilities, we are a major commercial entity and also a part of the social and economic fabric of Espirito Santo and its local communities. We are committed to growing our business here by providing the offshore oil and gas industry with world-class engineering solutions and by actively promoting skills development, education, employment opportunities, healthcare and other sustainable outcomes that advance our communities’ progress.

“We thank Petrobras and its partners for choosing to work with us on the P-68 project, as well as our employees, vendors and community leaders whose assistance is important to our continued success. We look forward to many more fruitful collaborations with all our stakeholders.”

Following P-68, EJA will complete the P-71 FPSO modules fabrication and integration project for Tupi B.V.

Petrobras reported that the P-68 platform left the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard, heading to the Berbigão and Sururu fields, in the Santos Basin pre-salt. Production of these fields is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019.

In line with its 2019-2023 Business and Management Plan, P-68 will be the fourth platform to start-up in 2019, after P-67, P-76 and P-77, contributing to the projected growth of Petrobras production during this period.

This is a FPSO platform (floating, production, storage and offloading unit of oil and gas) and has the following characteristics:

Oil Processing Capacity: 150 thousand barrels/day;
Gas Processing Capacity: 6 million m³/day;
Injection Water Treatment Capacity: 180 thousand barrels/day;
Storage Capacity: 1.6 million barrels of oil;
Depth Anchorage: 2,280 m;
Total Length: 316 m;
Width: 54 m;
Height: 31.5 m.

The hull was built at the Rio Grande Shipyard, in Rio Grande do Sul, and the module integration and commissioning of the Unit were carried out at the Jurong Aracruz Shipyard, in Aracruz, Espírito Santo.

Berbigão and Sururu fields are located in the BM-S-11A concession, operated by Petrobras (42.5%), in partnership with Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda. (25%), Total (22.5%) and Petrogal Brasil S.A. (10%), with the consortium companies owning P-68. The reservoirs of these fields extend to areas under the Transfer of Rights Agreement (100% Petrobras) and, after the unitization process, will constitute the shared reservoir of Berbigão and Sururu.

FPSO reaches production of more than 161 thousand barrels of oil per day

The P-68 platform vessel, which operates in the Berbigão and Sururu fields, in the Santos Basin pre-salt, broke a daily production record on the 8th October 2022, with a volume of 161,756 barrels of oil per day (bpd) . This milestone was rachieved with the first production of the ninth producing well (7-SRR-6D-RJS), surpassing the previous record, reached in June this year, of 157 thousand bpd. This new record was supported by studies to increase the platform's capacity, within the strictest safety conditions, with authorization from the competent external bodies.

To reach this volume, the platform is operating with nine producing wells, four of which use gas lift as a method of artificial lifting to increase the productivity of the reservoir. An FPSO (floating oil production, storage and transfer unit), the P-68 went into operation in 2019, with a capacity to produce up to 150,000 bpd and process 6 million m3 of gas per day. The platform operates approximately 230 km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of 2,280 meters.

The P-68 was the fourth unit in the series of replicants (systems with standardized designs) to come into operation in the pre-salt layer. The Berbigão and Sururu fields are located in the BM-S-11A concession, operated by Petrobras (42.5%), in partnership with Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltda. (25%), Total E&P do Brasil Ltda. (22.5%) and Petrogal Brasil S.A. (10%).
