[Brazil] Jubarte and Cachalote (Integrado Parque de Baleias) - FPSO Maria Quitéria

Unread post by escveritas »

Malaysia’s Yinson Holdings Berhad has been awarded two letters of intent by Petrobras to supply the FPSO destined for Integrado Parque das Baleias (IPB) in the North Campos Basin offshore Brazil. The contract period is for 22.5 years from the date of the final acceptance and is valued at $5.2 billion. The vessel will be installed in the Jubarte field and is scheduled to start production in the fourth quarter of 2024.

The unit will have the capacity to process 100,000 B/D of oil and 5 million cubic meters of gas per day. The project foresees the interconnection of 17 wells to the FPSO, nine of them oil producers and eight water injectors.

Parque das Baleias, also known as the Whale Park, is a cluster of seven deepwater oil and gas fields offshore Espírito Santo, Brazil. The area includes the Jubarte, Baleia Azul, Baleia Franca, Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, and the Pirambú fields that have both pre-salt and post-salt reserves. The area is estimated to hold more than 2 billion BOE in recoverable reserves.

The IPB FPSO will be Yinson’s second vessel to operate in Brazilian waters, with the first being FPSO Anna Nery, which was chartered to Petrobras in October 2019. It is currently under construction in Cosco Changxing, China, and is on track to be operational in 2023 in the Marlim field located in the northeastern part of the Campos Basin.

Yinson said it and Petrobras have jointly committed to implementing a low-emission design into IPB FPSO, although specifics were not revealed.

“The Maria Quitéria is a great project and we’re excited to be a part of it,” said Chad Tomlinson, Vice President Business Development. “Our global footprint allows us to serve customers like Yinson all over the world.”

The Maria Quitéria FPSO is planned to be located in the Jubarte field, North Campos Basin, where the water depth is up to 1400 meters.

It will accommodate a process plant able to produce 100,000 bbl/d maximum of crude oil, 5,000,000 Sm3/d of gas treatment and compression and 1,000,000 bbl minimum of crude oil storage.

VME’s scope of works includes process design, guarantee, fabrication, inspection and testing, class certification and Brazilian regulatory compliance of a series of modules including Oil Separation, Produced and Sea Water Treatment and Injection, Gas Treatment and Compression.

Petrobras Provided Updates on FPSO Maria Quiteria

The FPSO Maria Quitéria is currently en route to Brazil. The platform ship departed from China in May and is expected to arrive at its location in the third quarter of this year.

The unit is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of 2024, thus advancing the timeline from PE 24-28, initially planned to commence operations in 2025.

The FPSO will operate in the Jubarte field, located in the Campos Basin's pre-salt layer, off Espírito Santo's coast. The unit has a production capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil and can process 5 million cubic meters of gas. The production projections of the Strategic Plan, which allow for a margin of variation, remain unchanged.

The FPSO Maria Quitéria is a floating production, storage, and offloading unit equipped with decarbonization technologies such as a combined cycle power generation system and FGRU (closed flare).

Petrobras chartered the unit from Yinson, which was also responsible for its construction.

FPSO Maria Quitéria starts operating in the pre-salt Campos Basin

FPSO Maria Quitéria has produced its first oil on Tuesday (10/15) in the Jubarte field, pre-salt in the Espírito Santo portion of the Campos Basin. The unit can produce up to 100,000 barrels of oil a day and process up to 5 million cubic meters of gas. It will be interconnected to a total of eight producing wells and eight injectors.

FPSO Maria Quitéria's entry was brought forward; it was initially scheduled for 2025, according to the 2024-2028 Strategic Plan. Petrobras is the sole holder of the production rights for the Jubarte field, located in the area known as Parque das Baleias in Espírito Santo.

The platform is FPSO (floating production, storage, and transfer system). It is equipped with technologies to reduce emissions with greater operational efficiency and a reduction of around 24% in operational greenhouse gas emissions.

With a height of 156 meters and a length of 333 meters, the FPSO is installed at a water depth of 1,385 meters. It will also have the capacity to generate 100 MW of energy to supply a city of 230,000 inhabitants.

Parque das Baleias Integrated Project

The Parque das Baleias area is made up of the Jubarte, Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, Pirambú and Mangangá fields. The first field, Jubarte, was discovered in 2001. In 2019, Petrobras and the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) signed an agreement to extend the concession period until 2056 for the new unified Jubarte field, which enabled the implementation of FPSO Maria Quitéria, the latest production system for the Parque das Baleias Integrated Project, as well as complementary projects in the area.

Three other platforms operate in Parque das Baleias: P-57, P-58, and FPSO Cidade de Anchieta. When Maria Quitéria starts operating at full load, this unit will account for around 40% of the field's production.
