Eni starts production from Area 1 offshore Mexico

Production has started from the Mitzón 2 well which is expected to produce up to 15,000 barrels of oil per day.
San Donato Milanese (Milan), 2 July 2019 – Eni has started the early production phase from the Miztón field in Area 1, located in the Campeche Bay offshore Mexico. This is the first step in the development of Area 1, estimated to hold 2.1 billion of oil equivalent in place (90% oil) in the Amoca, Miztón and Tecoalli fields. Eni acquired Area 1 in a competitive bid round in September 2015.

Production from the Miztón field platform, located in 34 meters of water depth, is sent through a multiphase sealine to Eni’s Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) in Sanchez Magallanes, State of Tabasco. After separation at ORF, production is delivered to Pemex’s San Ramón plant for treatment. Production has started from the Mitzón 2 well that has shown a very good productivity index; the early production phase now is expected to produce up to 15,000 barrels of oil per day. Full field production will start in early 2021 utilizing a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading facility (FPSO) and reaching a plateau of 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day. The Plan of Development for Area 1 also includes two additional platforms on the Amoca field and one on the Tecoalli field.

Eni Chief Executive Officer Claudio Descalzi commented: “We have achieved production startup in less than two and half years after Eni started its first well in Area 1 and in less than one year from the approval of the Plan of Development. This is in line with the expectations of the Mexican Government to increase the country’s overall production. Eni is the first international company to start offshore production in Mexico after the Energy Reform, and we look forward to continue working with the Mexican authorities”.

The production startup from Area 1 further confirms Eni’s distinctive fast track approach to efficient upstream development projects.

In May 2019, Eni signed with the Tabasco State Government a Memorandum of Understanding aimed at identifying and developing educational, health and socioeconomic projects, in order to cooperate and contribute to the government plans of improving the conditions of the more disadvantaged communities in the Tabasco State.

Eni is present in Mexico since 2006 and established its wholly owned subsidiary Eni Mexico S. de R. L. de C. V. in 2015. Currently Eni holds rights and is Operator in six exploration and production blocks in the Sureste Basin. In addition, in October 2018 Eni agreed to an interest swap with Lukoil to acquire a non-operated participation in another block in Mexico.

MODEC Awarded Letter of Intent by Eni Mexico related to FPSO - Chartering, Operation and Maintenance - for Area 1 Project in Mexico

Tokyo, October 11, 2018 - MODEC, Inc. (“MODEC”) is pleased to announce that it has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) for supply, charter, and operations of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel from Eni Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. (“Eni Mexico”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Eni S.p.A., on October 3, 2018. The firm time charter period is 15 years with five (5) one-year extension options. A purchase option is included.
The FPSO will be deployed in the Offshore Area 1 some 10 kilometers off the coast of Mexico at a water depth approximately 32 meters. The field operatorship is 100% owned by Eni Mexico. The Area 1 project is currently in the pre-development phase.

MODEC is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization, installation and operation of the FPSO, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems. SOFEC, Inc., a MODEC group company, will design and supply the disconnectable tower yoke mooring system of the FPSO.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 90,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 75 million cubic feet of gas per day, 120,000 barrels of water injection per day and have a storage capacity of 900,000 barrels of crude oil. The first oil production by the FPSO is planned for 2021.

MODEC has an excellent track record of Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Installation (EPCI) as well as charter and operations projects, delivering so far 46 floating production systems all over the globe including five (5) systems for Gulf of Mexico.

“We are extremely honored and proud to have been selected to provide and operate the FPSO for Eni Mexico,” commented Toshiro Miyazaki, President and CEO of MODEC. “This project will continue to allow MODEC to showcase our distinguished capabilities in EPCI, charter and operations of floating production systems. We are committed to carry out this major project by cooperating closely with our client in order to contribute to the advancement of the energy industry in Mexico.”

MODEC, Inc. announced today that the FPSO MIAMTE MV34 operating in the Offshore Area 1 block in the Bay of Campeche for Eni has achieved the First Oil production on February 23, 2022.

Moored in a water depth of approximately 32 meters some ten (10) kilometers off Mexico's coast, the FPSO is capable of handling 90,000 barrels of oil per day, 75 million cubic feet of gas per day and 120,000 barrels of water injection per day with a storage capacity of 700,000 barrels of oil.

The FPSO boasts a Disconnectable Tower Yoke Mooring System (“DTYMS”), a first-of-its-kind design in the industry. The state-of-the-art DTYMS was developed to moor the FPSO in shallow water, whilst also allowing the unit to disconnect its mooring and depart the area in order to avoid winter storms and hurricanes prevalent in the Gulf of Mexico. The DTYMS was developed by SOFEC, Inc., a MODEC group company, and the mooring jacket was fabricated in Altamira, Mexico.

Eni offloads and exports first oil cargo from MIAMTE MV34 FPSO in Mexico

Mexico City (Mexico), 14 April 2022 - The first cargo from MIAMTE FPSO (Floating Production, Storage and Offloading), operating at the Miztón, Amoca and Tecoalli fields in Area 1, Gulf of Mexico, was successfully offloaded and exported today. This achievement marks an important milestone for the oil and gas sector in Mexico, being Eni the first international energy company to develop a complex offshore project being able to export the oil to international market.

The first offloading and export from MIAMTE FPSO comes following early production from Miztón in June 2019 and after less than 3.5 years from the Final Investment Decision of Area 1 Project. This fast-track development has been possible thanks to the full alignment between the Mexican Government, the relevant local authorities and Eni, and confirms the company’s commitment to meet project schedule and contractual obligations, actively supporting the Country in the implementation of its energy development plan.

MIAMTE FPSO has a crude oil treatment capacity of 90 thousand barrels of oil per day, a crude oil storage capacity of 700,000 barrels and a gas treatment capacity of 75 million standard cubic feet per day and it was designed with the best energy efficiency technologies as well as a zero-flaring philosophy. It reached Mexico early January 2022 and, following the completion of the integrated commissioning activities, started operations on February 23rd.

The full development of Area 1 will include 33 wells connected to 3 wellhead platforms plus 1 monopod, in addition to the FPSO. The full development of Area 1 will include 33 wells connected to 3 wellhead platforms plus 1 monopod, in addition to the FPSO. Presently the first 2 wellhead platforms are in operations on Mitzon and Amoca fields while further activities for the development of Tecoalli and Amoca are underway.

Mexico is a key country in Eni’s organic growth strategy. The company, which has been leading upstream investments in Mexico, has been present in the country since 2006 and has established in 2015 its subsidiary Eni Mexico S. de R.L. de C.V. Eni currently holds 100% share in Area 1 and interests in other seven exploration and production blocks (five as an Operator), all located in the Sureste Basin in the Gulf of Mexico.
