Keppel completes two offshore facilities for Maersk Contractors

Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited (Keppel O&M) through its wholly-owned subsidiaries, Keppel FELS Limited (Keppel FELS) and Keppel Shipyard Limited (Keppel Shipyard), has completed two offshore facilities for Maersk Contractors.

The first project is a jackup drilling rig built by Keppel FELS. Of the MSC CJ 50 design, the jackup rig which was named Maersk Resilient by Mrs Susanne Hemmingsen, wife of Mr Claus Hemmingsen, Partner in AP Moller and CEO of Maersk Contractors, on 30 January 2008 at a ceremony held at the Keppel FELS yard.

With maximum operating and drilling depths of up to 350 feet and 30,000 feet respectively, Maersk Resilient has been contracted by Dubai Petroleum Establishment for drilling operations off of coast of Dubai in the Arabian Gulf.

It is the first of four jackups to be completed for Maersk Contractors. Delivery of the rigs has been scheduled on half-yearly intervals.

The second project, by Keppel Shipyard, is the complex conversion of the former, 308,000 dead weight tonne VLCC Ellen Maersk into a Floating Production Storage and Offloading facility (FPSO).

The facility was named Maersk Ngujima-Yin in a separate ceremony graced by Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Singapore Minister of State for Finance and Transport, on 2 Febuary 2008. Mrs Kim Spence, wife of Keith Spence, Woodside Energy‘s Executive Vice President for Enterprise Capability is the godmother of the vessel.

The FPSO will be deployed in the Vincent field, offshore Australia. It is capable of handling a daily production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil per day and has a storage capacity of 1.2 million barrels of oil. The vessel will be moored at a water depth of 320 to 420 metres.

Mr Claus V. Hemmingsen, CEO of Maersk Contractors, said, “We are glad to partner Keppel O&M for our recent expansion plans. The Keppel and Maersk project teams have worked hard to complete these highly efficient and technically advanced projects. We now look forward to proving their qualities in operation.”

Mr Choo Chiau Beng, Chairman and CEO of Keppel O&M said, “We are pleased that Maersk Contractors continues to choose Keppel as their partner of choice to participate in their offshore fleet expansion programme. We are committed to deliver on our promise to our valued customer, and I thank Maersk Contractors for their vote of confidence in us.”

Keppel FELS and Keppel Shipyard are wholly-owned subsidiaries of Keppel Corporation Limited, through Keppel O&M, a leader in offshore rigs, shiprepair and conversion and specialised shipbuilding. Keppel O&M’s near market, near customer strategy is bolstered by a global network of 20 yards in the Asia Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Brazil, the Caspian Sea, Middle East and the North Sea regions. Integrating the experience and expertise of its yards worldwide, the group aims to be the provider of choice and partner in solutions for the offshore and marine industry.

The Ngujima-Yin Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility is located over the Vincent oil field. Woodside have been producing from the Vincent field, located 50 km offshore Exmouth, Western Australia, since 2008.

Approved in 2016, the project will develop the Laverda Canyon, Norton over Laverda (WA-59-L) and Cimatti (WA-28-L) oil accumulations. These reserves will be produced via a 31 km subsea tie-back to the Ngujima-Yin Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility.

In 2016, Aibel was awarded the E&P contract for modifications on the Ngujima-Yin FPSO. The contract included both detailed marine and topside engineering and procurement services as well as engineering site support services.

The vessel had modifications done to the topsides, hull and turret, along with the installation of a new customized Water Flood module.

The project engaged up to 170 employees at the most, and was delivered 25 April 2019.

Greater Enfield Project production commenced
Aug. 26, 2019

Mitsui & Co. (Mitsui) is pleased to announce the commencement of oil production from the Greater Enfield Project, a collection of fields located in the Carnarvon Basin approximately 50 kilometres off the coast of Exmouth, Western Australia.

Mitsui owns a 40 percent working interest in the project through its fully-owned subsidiary Mitsui E&P Australia Pty. Ltd. (MEPAU). Woodside Energy Limited (Woodside), as Operator, controls the remaining 60 percent working interest. The commencement of production marks an important milestone in the project's history, further underscoring the level and depth of commitment that the partners have toward making it a commercial success.

Production from the field is via the Ngujima-Yin Floating Production Storage and Offloading facility which has been used for the Vincent Oil Field. Taking advantage of existing infrastructure has greatly reduced capital requirement, improving the cost competitiveness of the project. Mitsui is looking for opportunities to potentially expand this production and will continue to carry out exploration and evaluation of undeveloped reservoirs both inside and outside the project permit area.

Oil produced from the Greater Enfield will be marketed jointly by Mitsui & Co. Energy Trading Singapore Pte Ltd., Mitsui's 100 percent subsidiary, and Woodside. Demand for low-sulphur crude oil produced through the project is expected to rise as tightening environmental regulations on marine fuels motivate the shipping industry to lower the sulphur content in fuels.

Mitsui continues to regard the resource and energy as its core business area and will pursue to enhance its competitive portfolio in the energy upstream business. Mitsui aims for a stable crude oil production from Greater Enfield, thereby contributing to a stable energy supply to the global market including Japan.
