Maersk Drilling awarded one-well exploration contract by PETRONAS

Maersk Drilling has secured a contract for the semi-submersible rig Mærsk Developer which will be employed by PETRONAS Suriname Exploration & Production B.V. for a one-well exploration campaign in Block 52 offshore Suriname. The contract is expected to commence in Q3/Q4 2020, with an estimated duration of 75 days. The value of the firm contract is approximately USD 20.4m, including integrated drilling services, mobilisation and demobilisation fees. The contract includes an additional one-well option.

The Mærsk Developer is a DSS-21 column-stabilised dynamically positioned semi-submersible rig, able to operate in water depths up to 10,000ft. It is currently warm-stacked in Aruba after ending its latest contract offshore Trinidad and Tobago.

Maersk Drilling selected for two-rig Suriname campaign by Total

Maersk Drilling has received a Conditional Letter of Award (CLOA) from Total E&P Suriname, Suriname Branch for the supply of two deepwater rigs, Mærsk Developer and Maersk Valiant, for an exploration and appraisal project in Suriname’s Block 58. The campaign is expected to commence in early 2021, with an estimated firm combined duration of 500 days. The estimated firm total contract value is approximately USD 100m, including rig upgrades and integrated services provided.

The CLOA is conditional upon finalisation of the formal contract as well as certain other customary conditions. Maersk Drilling will provide an update upon conclusion of a formal contract.

“We’re delighted to get this opportunity to add further to our long-standing relationship with Total through a two-rig contract, building on our previous collaboration on deepwater exploration projects and on Maersk Drilling’s recent experience with starting up operations in Suriname for Mærsk Developer,” says COO Morten Kelstrup of Maersk Drilling.

Maersk Drilling awarded two Suriname floater contracts by Total

Based on the previously announced Conditional Letter of Award, Maersk Drilling has been awarded contracts for the deepwater rigs Maersk Valiant and Mærsk Developer from Total E&P Suriname, Suriname Branch, for Total’s exploration and appraisal project in Suriname’s Block 58. Mærsk Developer and Maersk Valiant will be employed for an estimated combined total duration of 500 days. Mærsk Developer is expected to commence operations in January 2021, while Maersk Valiant is expected to commence operations in March 2021. The total value of the firm contracts is approximately USD 100m, including rig modifications, integrated services provided, and a mobilisation fee for Maersk Valiant. The contracts include various extension options.

Mærsk Developer is a DSS-21 column-stabilised dynamically positioned semi-submersible rig, able to operate in water depths up to 10,000 ft. It was delivered in 2009 and is currently mobilising for the Total campaign after recently completing a contract offshore Suriname.

Maersk Valiant is a high-specification 7th generation drillship with integrated Managed Pressure Drilling capability which was delivered in 2013. It is currently warm-stacked in Aruba after finishing a campaign offshore Mexico in June 2020.

Maersk Drilling secures four-well intervention contract for Mærsk Developer in Brazil

Maersk Drilling has been awarded a contract with Karoon Energy Ltd for the semi-submersible rig Mærsk Developer to perform well intervention on four wells at the Baúna field offshore Brazil.

The contract is expected to commence in the first half of 2022, with a firm duration of 110 days. The value of the firm contract is approximately USD 34m, including rig modifications and a mobilisation fee. The contract contains options to add up to 150 days of drilling work at the Patola and Neon fields.

“We’re delighted to enter into this contract with a new customer in the form of Karoon which will also see one of our drilling rigs operating offshore Brazil for the first time ever. We’re looking forward to entering this major offshore market and to working closely together with the Karoon team on the safe and efficient delivery of the workover at Baúna and potential development of Patola,” says COO Morten Kelstrup of Maersk Drilling.

Maersk Drilling secures extension for Mærsk Developer in Brazil

Karoon Energy Ltd has exercised options to add the drilling of up to two wells at the Neon field offshore Brazil to the work scope of the semi-submersible rig Mærsk Developer. The contract extension has a duration of 80 days, in direct continuation of the rig’s previous work scope. The contract extension has a firm contract value of approximately USD 21m.

“We’re delighted to confirm this extension which will expand Mærsk Developer’s activities in Brazil to include assisting Karoon in the further evaluation of the Neon discovery. During our preparations for the initial Baúna work scope, the Developer team has established a strong and close collaboration in our partnership with Karoon, and we’re looking forward to building on that in the Neon campaign,” says Thomas Lysgaard Falk, Head of International Division, Maersk Drilling.

Dr Julian Fowles, Karoon Energy Limited's CEO and Managing Director said: “We are looking forward to the commencement of workover activities on the Baúna field by the Mærsk Developer shortly and are very pleased to have extended our contract to include the planned drilling on Neon subject to the receipt of normal regulatory approvals, which will further consolidate our already strong relationship with the team at Maersk Drilling.”
