MODEC Awarded Letter of Intent by Petrobras Related to Búzios 5 FPSO
Tokyo, June 20, 2019

MODEC, Inc. ("MODEC") is pleased to announce that it has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) for supply, charter, and operations of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel for Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. ("Petrobras") for Búzios 5. The firm time charter period of the contract is 21 years.

This will be the 5th FPSO deployed at the Búzios field, however it is the first chartered production unit for the region. Búzios is one of the offshore oil and gas fields in Brazil which forms part of the Transfer of Rights agreement signed in 2010. The Búzios field is 100% operated by Petrobras and is situated 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in the giant "pre-salt" region of the Santos Basin, Brazil, at a water depth approximately 1,900 meters.

MODEC is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization chartering and operations of the FPSO, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems. SOFEC, Inc., a MODEC group company, will design and supply the spread mooring system for the floating unit.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 212 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, 240,000 barrels of water injection per day and will have minimum storage capacity of 1,400,000 barrels of crude oil. The first oil production by the FPSO is planned for 2022.

This is the 15th FPSO/FSO vessel which MODEC will provide in Brazil, as well as MODEC's 8th FPSO in the "pre-salt" following the FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis MV22, the FPSO Cidade de São Paulo MV23, the FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba MV24, the FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26, the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba MV27, as well as our two latest units, the FPSO Carioca MV30 and FPSO Guanabara MV31, currently under construction.

The Búzios 5 FPSO will be delivered with Brazilian local content, following the successful experience of our other projects in the country.

"At this time, we are extremely honored that MODEC has been awarded the contract for the first chartered FPSO to be deployed at Búzios field," commented Yuji Kozai, President and CEO of MODEC. "This most recent award represents a continued strong relationship of trust between our client Petrobras and us, and it strengthens our leading position as an offshore oil and gas production service provider in Brazil. We are committed to carry out this major project by cooperating closely with our client in order to contribute to the advancement of the energy industry in Brazil."

Veolia Water Technologies, through its subsidiary VWS Westgarth Ltd, has been awarded a contract by MODEC for the supply of a seawater treatment package for the FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, to be deployed at the Buzios field offshore Brazil.

The award is for the design and procurement of equipment with construction for a seawater treatment plant sized for 280,200 BPD (44,450 m3/day) of low sulphate water for the Almirante Barroso Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit, which will operate in the Buzios Field, offshore 180 km from the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

The seawater system, provided as a single process module, comprising Coarse Strainers, UltraMEV ultrafiltration pretreatment, Sulphate Removal Feed Pumps, Sulphate Removal Membrane Trains, Membrane CIP system, Vacuum Deaerator Package, Water Injection Booster Pumps, Plant Control System, Piping, Valves and Instrumentation

This is the sixth contract awarded from MODEC to Veolia and can be attributed to the successes of previous projects executed for the company. Almirante Barroso FPSO will be the fifth FPSO in the Buzios field. The FPSO will be spread moored in a water depth of 1,900 meters and will be able to store around 1.4 million barrels of crude oil.
“We thank Modec for again showing their confidence in Veolia by making this award and we look forward to continuing our excellent working relationship established through past projects delivery of our specialist technology to Modec’s requirements"

On December 27th, CHI (Dalian) completed the largest FPSO flare tower installation in China. The flare tower is an important upper section of the FPSO conversion project MV32, built and installed by CHI(Dalian). The installation broke through a number of technical bottlenecks, which accumulates valuable experience for the subsequent projects.

MODEC’s FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32 for Brazilian “pre-salt” region achieves First Oil and starts 21-year time charter

MODEC, Inc. (“MODEC”) announced that the FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32, deployed for production operations at the Búzios field in the giant “pre-salt” region of the Santos Basin off the coast of Brazil, achieved First Oil production on May 31, 2023. The FPSO is leased on a 21-year time charter contract to Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (“Petrobras”), the Brazilian giant oil company.

“This is MODEC’s 13th project with Petrobras. We are happy and proud to support our long-time partner in their production activities in Brazil’s continuously growing oil and gas industry,” says Soichi Ide, President & CEO of MODEC Offshore Production Systems (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.

The FPSO is the 15th FPSO/FSO vessel that MODEC has delivered to the Brazilian oil and gas sector and the 8th for the “pre-salt” region. MODEC was responsible for its engineering, procurement, construction, and mobilization, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems. SOFEC, Inc., a MODEC group company, designed and provided the spread mooring system of the FPSO.

Moored some 180 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of approximately 1,900 meters, the FPSO is capable of processing 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 6,000,000 m3 of gas per day.

“The FPSO Almirante Barroso MV32 was a highly complex project executed almost entirely during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The company’s teams in the different countries had to adapt their ways of working to overcome unprecedented challenges to deliver this project safely,” Ide adds.
