[Guyana] Errea Wittu - Uaru FPSO

Unread post by escveritas »

MODEC, Inc. ("MODEC") is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract to perform Front End Engineering and Design (FEED) for a Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) for the “Uaru” development project. The FEED contract award relates to the initial funding by ExxonMobil’s subsidiary, Esso Exploration and Production Guyana Limited (EEPGL), to begin FEED activities related to the FPSO design and to secure the second M350TM hull for FPSO service.

Following FEED and subject to government approvals in Guyana of the development plan, project sanction including final investment decision by ExxonMobil, and EEPGL’s release of the second phase (EPCI) of work, MODEC is expected to construct the FPSO and install in Guyana. MODEC is also anticipated to operate the FPSO for an initial duration of 10 years, with potential options for continuation.

MODEC will design and construct the FPSO based on its M350 new-build design. Uaru will be the second M350 hull used for FPSO service. The FPSO will be designed to produce 250,000 barrels of oil per day, will have associated gas treatment capacity of 540 million cubic feet per day and water injection capacity of 350,000 barrels per day.

The FPSO will be installed in a water depth of about 2000 meters, using a SOFEC Spread Mooring System and will be able to store around 2 million barrels of crude oil.
“We are extremely honored and proud to be selected to provide the FEED services for an FPSO for the UARU project,” commented Takeshi Kanamori, President and CEO of MODEC. “We are equally proud of our robust track record of successful project deliveries in the South America region, and we look forward to cooperating closely with the client and its partners to make this project a success.”

The FPSO will be MODEC’s first for use in Guyana, however it will be the 18th FPSO/FSO vessel delivered by MODEC for use in South America.

Although this project will be ready for delivery in 2024, we can already give you a little sneak peek!

The project has been designed as a compact offloading unit with low pressure drop despise its wide viscosity range, and there is also a high focus on cyber security to ensure the safety and reliability for the future.

MODEC, Inc. ("MODEC") is pleased to announce that it will proceed with engineering, procurement, and construction on the Uaru Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) vessel following a final investment decision on the Uaru project by ExxonMobil Guyanaand its co-venturers on April 27, 2023.

Uaru is a significant addition to MODEC’s portfolio and it covers the Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Installation (EPCI) of the FPSO. MODEC will also provide ExxonMobilwith operations and maintenance service of the FPSO for 10 yearsfrom its first oil production.

The Uaru FPSO is named ‘Errea Wittu’, which means ‘abundance’, and will be the fifth offshore FPSO in Guyana. The FPSO will combine the development of the Snoek, Mako and Uaru resources in the Stabroek block. It will be deployed approximately 200 kilometers offshore Guyana, at a water depth of 1690 meters, using a SOFEC Spread Mooring System, and it will be able to store around 2 million barrels of crude oil. ExxonMobil’s co-venturers on the Stabroek block are Hess Guyana Exploration LTD (30%) and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited (25%).

Offshore Frontier Solution Pte. Ltd. (“OFS”), a MODEC Group Company and a joint venture with Toyo Engineering Corporation, launched inAugust 2022, will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the FPSO based on MODEC’s M350TM new-build hull. The FPSO will have a topside designed to produce approximately 250,000 barrels of oil per day and will have associated gas treatment capacity of 540 million cubic feet per day, water injection capacity of 350,000 barrels per day and produced water capacity of 300,000 barrels per day.

“We are extremely honored to be chosen to provide a FPSO for the Uaru project”, commented Takeshi Kanamori, President & CEO of MODEC. “This isour first project with ExxonMobilsince we delivered FSO Kome Kribi 1 in Cameroon for Esso Chad in 2003. It is indeed a long-desired new project for MODEC, and we look forward to cooperating closely with the client and its co-venturers to make this project a success.”

The FPSO will be MODEC’s first for use in Guyana and it will be the 18th FPSO/FSO project delivered by MODEC for use in South America.

Modec awards FPSO contract to Chinese shipyard
Thursday, June 15 2023

Japanese floater specialist Modec has finalised a deal with a Chinese yard for the hull of a newbuild floating production, storage and offloading vessel that will serve ExxonMobil’s Uaru field on its prolific Stabroek block offshore Guyana.

Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Company in northern China’s Dalian city has clinched a deal with Modec to build the hull and living quarters of the FPSO, and first steel cut is scheduled in four months.

The newbuild floater will be based on the M350 standardised hull design that Modec and DSIC developed together.

It will be the second M350 FPSO Modec has signed up with DISC. The first is for Equinor’s Bacalhau project offshore Brazil. The Bacalhau FPSO sailed away early this week, heading for Singapore for hull-topsides integration at a Seatrium yard.

The Uaru FPSO will be named Errea Wittu, which Modec said means “abundance”, and will be able to store about 2 million barrels of oil.

MODEC Hits Milestone: First Steel Cut in China for Guyana-Bound FPSO Errea Wittu

Japanese FPSO leasing firm MODEC said Thursday that the first steel-cutting ceremony for the Guyana-bound FPSO Errea Wittu had been held in China.
MODEC secured its first order to supply an FPSO to Guyana in May 2023. The order came from an ExxonMobil-led consortium and is for the deployment of the FPSO to the giant Stabroek offshore block in Guyana, where Exxon already has three FPSOs in production, all three supplied by SBM Offshore.

According to World Energy Reports, China's DSIC has the construction hull contract, with Bomesc Offshore Engineering and DynaMac responsible for the topside modules construction.

Announcing the first steel cutting ceremony in China on Thursday, MODEC said: "FPSO Errea Wittu has reached an important milestone in its journey! After an exciting start with the first steel cutting for the topside’s modules in Singapore, we are proud to announce that the FPSO Errea Wittu has also achieved the first steel cutting milestones in China."

President and CEO of MODEC in Singapore, Soichi Ide, who was present at the first steel cut events in China, thanked ExxonMobil for entrusting the project to MODEC: "We have a track record for successful project deliveries that we are proud of. Although FPSO Errea Wittu will be MODEC’s first FPSO for use in Guyana, she will be the 18th FPSO/FSO vessel delivered by MODEC for use in South America, out of 54 floating facilities delivered in the world. Thank you for choosing us to be your partner. We are proud to be able to play a part in contributing towards Guyana's energy future and the economy.”
The Errea Wittu FPSO will be used to develop the Snoek, Mako, and Uaru resources in the Stabroek block.

Apart from supplying the Errea Wittu FPSO, MODEC will also provide ExxonMobil with operations and maintenance service of the FPSO for 10 years from its first oil production.

The Errea Wittu will be deployed approximately 200 kilometers offshore Guyana, at a water depth of 1690 meters, using a SOFEC Spread Mooring System, and it will be able to store around 2 million barrels of crude oil. ExxonMobil’s co-venturers on the Stabroek block are Hess Guyana Exploration LTD (30%) and CNOOC Petroleum Guyana Limited (25%).

The FPSO will have a topside designed to produce approximately 250,000 barrels of oil per day and will have an associated gas treatment capacity of 540 million cubic feet per day, water injection capacity of 350,000 barrels per day, and produced water capacity of 300,000 barrels per day.
