The FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 is installed in approximately 1,100 meters water depth on the Jubilee Field, which is one of the largest oil fields discovered offshore West Africa in the past 10 years.

The FPSO is capable of processing more than 120,000 barrels of oil per day, and injecting more than 230,000 barrels of water per day and 160 MMscfd of produced gas.

On November 28, 2010, the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 achieved commissioning of first oil offshore Ghana. The oil from this day has been used to commission the facilities for Tullow's official First Oil Ceremony held on December 15, 2010. The FPSO is designed to remain on the field for up to 20 years.

MODEC is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with the Jubilee Field Partners and Tullow Ghana Ltd. (Unit Operator) to provide and operate the first FPSO to be installed on the Jubilee Field offshore Ghana. The agreement was entered into by Tullow Ghana Ltd. on behalf of the Jubilee Field partners: Tullow Ghana Ltd., Kosmos Energy Ghana, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation, EO Group, Sabre Oil and Gas, and the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). The contract is a seven year lease with 13 one-year options.

The FPSO, part of the Phase 1 development plan, will be installed in approximately 1,100 meters water depth on the Jubilee Field, which is one of the largest oil fields discovered offshore West Africa in the past 10 years. It will be capable of processing more than 120,000 barrels of oil per day, and injecting more than 230,000 barrels of water per day and 160 MMscfd of produced gas. First oil is scheduled in 2010 and the FPSO is designed to remain on the field for up to 20 years.

Kenji Yamada, President & CEO of MODEC, Inc., said, "MODEC is very proud to have been selected by the Jubilee Unit partners and GNPC to provide and operate the Jubilee FPSO, a world class facility on a world class field. We are equally pleased to be a part of the team that will provide a needed energy resource to benefit the people of Ghana."

Rick Hall, President of MODEC International, Inc., added, "The Jubilee award represents a significant milestone for MODEC in assisting Tullow and its partners to develop a world class oil field while also strengthening MODEC's infrastructure in West Africa. Following the Jubilee Phase 1 FPSO award along with the recently awarded FPSO to be installed offshore Angola, MODEC will have operations in Ghana, Angola and Cote d'Ivoire with additional MODEC supplied facilities operating in Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, Cameroon and Gabon."

MODEC announces another outstanding milestone for the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 (Jubilee FPSO) with the official First Oil Ceremony. On November 28, 2010, the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 achieved commissioning of first oil offshore Ghana. The J-02 well opened at 15:45 hours, GMT. Hydrocarbons reached the topsides in the late afternoon and the first flare occurred at 19:50 hours. The oil from this day has been used to commission the facilities for Tullow's official First Oil Ceremony held on December 15, 2010.

His Excellency John Atta Mills, President of Ghana, was the guest of honor at the ceremony held by Tullow Oil plc (Tullow), Anadarko Petroleum, Kosmos Energy, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Sabre Oil and Gas, and the E.O. Group. First Oil events were celebrated both on the FPSO, located offshore within the Jubilee field development, and in Takoradi, close to the Jubilee onshore support base. The ceremony was broadcast live on various local TV stations in Ghana as well as globally.

The significance of this fast-tracked large-scale subsea development has received great public recognition. In addition to the globally televised First Oil Ceremony, this year's December issue of Offshore Magazine named Jubilee one of their "Top 5 Projects of 2010."

The oil production rate for FPSO Kwame Nkrumah MV21 will initially increase to 55,000 barrels of oil per day and then to 120,000 barrels as new wells are brought online over the next three-to-six months. The first lift of Jubilee field oil from the FPSO to an export tanker is expected in January 2011. MODEC Management congratulates the entire Project Team on this excellent achievement.

Tullow Ghana Limited (Tullow), operator of the offshore Jubilee and TEN fields, has awarded a 5-year contract to Petrofac Ghana (Petrofac) to support Operations and Maintenance activities on the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah (KNK). Petrofac is the largest amongst a number of companies, all of which are either indigenous Ghanaian firms or local joint ventures, which will assume the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of the KNK FPSO following the expiry of Tullow’s contract with MODEC Production Services Ghana JV Ltd (MODEC) which ended on 30 June 2022. Tullow as the field operator remains accountable for the safe and reliable operations in Jubilee including the KNK FPSO.

The transition of the management of the KNK, prompted by the expiry of the MODEC contract forms part of Tullow’s long-term vision to become a top quartile production company in terms of safe operations, emissions control, increased reliability, and cost efficiency. The transition is expected to deliver improved safety performance, reduced operating costs and sustained production efficiency.

Commenting on the new partnership with Petrofac, Tullow Chief Executive Officer, Rahul Dhir said: “this new partnership with Petrofac will leverage Petrofac’s years of experience in operating onshore and offshore facilities and will deliver improved operations on KNK. In particular, Petrofac’s experience in workforce training will be key in helping Tullow develop Ghanaian talent in leadership roles in the management of Ghana’s offshore facilities. As we embark on this change, I want to thank MODEC for the support they have provided us over the last 12 years."

Nick Shorten, Chief Operating Officer for Petrofac’s Asset Solutions business said: “I’m delighted that we are continuing to grow our presence in Africa with valued long-term partner Tullow Oil. We bring our considerable global FPSO experience to Ghana, also putting us in a good position to support other similar facilities in the region. Petrofac has been in North Africa for more than two decades and now we are building our presence across the continent, growing local jobs, developing local skills, and collaborating with local partners.”

Tullow and MODEC worked on a smooth transition of O&M services and achieved a seamless transition on 1 July 2022.
