MODEC awarded charter and operation services contract for Sépia FPSO by Petrobras

Tokyo, October 20, 2017 – MODEC, Inc. (“MODEC”) is pleased to announce that it has signed the contract for supply, charter, and operations of a Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel with Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (“Petrobras”) on October 13, 2017. The firm charter period of the contract is 21 years.

The FPSO will be deployed at the Sépia field operated by Petrobras, located in the giant “pre-salt” region of the Santos Basin some 250 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at a water depth approximately 2,200 meters.

MODEC is responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization, installation and operation of the FPSO, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems. A MODEC group company, SOFEC, Inc. will design and supply the spread mooring system.

The FPSO will be capable of processing 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 212 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, 240,000 barrels of water injection per day and has storage capacity of 1,400,000 barrels of crude oil.

This is the 13th FPSO/FSO vessel which MODEC will provide in Brazil, as well as MODEC’s 6th FPSO in the “pre-salt” following the FPSO Cidade de Angra dos Reis MV22, the FPSO Cidade de São Paulo MV23, the FPSO Cidade de Mangaratiba MV24, the FPSO Cidade de Itaguaí MV26 and the FPSO Cidade de Caraguatatuba MV27 which has achieved the First Oil production in December 2016.

The FPSO will be delivered with Brazilian local content, following the successful experience in the latest projects in the country.

Siemens to deliver gas turbine packages, services for Petrobras’ Sépia FPSO
  • Project includes six SGT-A35 aeroderivative offshore gas turbine packages
  • Contract includes a long-term service agreement
Siemens Power and Gas, including its Dresser-Rand business, received an order for four SGT-A35 gas turbine power generation packages and two SGT-A35-driven DATUM CO2 compressor packages for MODEC's Sépia floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel. The vessel, which is named "FPSO Carioca MV30," will be deployed at the Sépia field operated by Petrobras, located in the giant "pre-salt" region of the Santos Basin approximately 250 kilometers (155 miles) off the cost of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In addition, Siemens will provide long-term expert service and maintenance for the supplied components.

The picture shows a SGT-A35 RB211 gas turbine.

MODEC is responsible to engineer, procure, construct, mobilize, install, and operate the FPSO. The equipment is scheduled for delivery in late 2018. Once operating in 2021, the FPSO is expected to process 180,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and have a storage capacity of 1,400,000 barrels of crude oil.

Siemens will use its global network to manufacture and package an integrated solution for MODEC. For power generation on the vessel, Siemens will supply four SGT-A35 gas turbine power generation packages. The SGT-A35 aeroderivative gas turbine (formerly the Industrial RB211), coupled with an MT30 2-pole synchronous power turbine from the marine Trent engine, has millions of hours of proven experience. The SGT-A35 RB gas turbine offers leading-class reliability and availability that is so critical to this type of remote installation.

In addition, two SGT-A35-driven DATUM compressor trains will reinject CO2 to more than 250 bar (3,626 psi) pressure. With the DATUM compressor's high-pressure and high-density compression technology, the total footprint can be reduced when compared to a conventional compression and pumping module. This attribute makes the technology uniquely suited for offshore applications such as an FPSO where space and weight are critical factors.

"The advanced technology offered by our new offshore SGT-A35 turbine package, our extensive experience with Petrobras' FPSO projects, and the well-documented success of our DATUM CO2 compressor technology were key to secure this important project," said Matthew Chinn, Head of New Equipment Solutions for the Dresser-Rand business. "In addition, for the next two decades our world-class services team will help ensure the long-term optimal performance of the equipment."

This project represents MODEC's thirteenth FPSO/FSO vessel in Brazil and its sixth FPSO in the Pre-Salt region. These units will join Siemens and the Dresser-Rand business' installed fleet of 128 aeroderivative gas turbines and 189 compressors operating offshore Brazil today.

The FPSO Carioca MV30 – the largest platform ever built for the Brazilian offshore – has left Angra dos Reis (RJ) this weekend and started its navigation towards the Petrobras's operated Sépia Field, in the Santos Basin pre-salt area according to MODEC, Inc., the FPSO contractor.

MV30 Carioca has a daily production capacity of 180 thousand oil barrels and 6 million cubic meters of gas, and able to store 1.4 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Petrobras informed that FPSO Carioca, the first platform in Sépia field, has started its first production in the Santos Basin pre-salt last month.

The FPSO is located approximately 200 km off the coast of the state of Rio de Janeiro, in water depths of 2,200 meters. The FPSO Carioca, unit chartered from Modec, has the capacity to process up to 180,000 barrels of oil per day and to compress up to 6 million cubic meters of natural gas.

The project foresees the interconnection of seven producing wells and four injection wells to the FPSO. The oil production will be flown out by offloading vessels, while the gas production will be drained through the pre-salt gas pipeline routes. The project also has a system to remove CO2 from the gas produced and to reinject it into the reservoir, reducing the release of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and improving its oil recovery.

The Sépia shared reservoir is composed by Sépia and Sépia Leste fields, located in the Transfer of Rights and Concession (BM-S-24) areas, respectively, operated by Petrobras (97.6%), in partnership with Petrogal Brasil S.A. (2.4%).

MODEC’s FPSO Carioca MV30 achieves First Oil and starts 21-Year Time Charter

Image

MODEC, Inc. (“MODEC”) announced today that the FPSO Carioca MV30, deployed for operations in the Sépia field in the “pre-salt” region of the Santos Basin off the coast of Brazil, achieved the First Oil production on August 23, 2021.

The FPSO is leased on a 21-year time charter contract to Petróleo Brasileiro S.A. (“Petrobras”), the Brazilian state oil company. Moored some 200 kilometers off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, in a water depth of approximately 2,200 meters, the FPSO is capable of processing 180,000 barrels of crude oil per day, 212 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, 240,000 barrels of water injection per day and has storage capacity of 1,400,000 barrels of crude oil.

MODEC was responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction, mobilization and installation of the FPSO, including topsides processing equipment as well as hull and marine systems. SOFEC, Inc., a MODEC group company, designed and provided the spread mooring system of the FPSO.

This is the 13th unit that MODEC has delivered to the Brazilian oil & gas sector, as well as MODEC’s 6th FPSO in the “pre-salt”. MODEC currently operates 10 units in Brazil and has four (4) others under construction for the country.

“We are extremely proud of this achievement while facing the difficulties of COVID-19 pandemic,” commented Takeshi Kanamori, President and CEO of MODEC. “We continue to enhance our fleet in Brazil, with additionally four FPSOs to enter into operations within the coming few years. We are committed to carry out this major and long-term project as well as other ongoing projects by cooperating closely with our clients in order to contribute to the sustainability of the energy industry in Brazil.”
