The Peregrino field is our largest international operation outside Norway, and Phase Two involves the addition of a third fixed wellhead platform to the field, extending its main productive life and adding 273 million in recoverable reserves.

The Peregrino oil field is located in licences BM-C-7 and BM-C-47, approximately 85km offshore Brazil, in the Campos basin, in water depths of 100m. The second phase is expected to be developed at a cost of $3.5bn and will start production in 2021.

Equinor and Sinochem are joint field owners, with Equinor being the operator with a 60% interest in the asset. Peregrino is Equinor’s largest operated oil field outside Norway and has a production capacity of 100,000 bpd. The concession period of the field extends until 2040.

A plan of development for Peregrino Phase Two was submitted to Brazil’s National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) on 30 January 2015. The second phase is expected to be developed at a cost of $3.5bn, and will start production in 2021.

Peregrino Phase Two development details

The second phase involves the Peregrino south-west area, which is not accessible by the existing A and B platforms. Its development plan involves increasing the number of production wells.

The field will be developed using horizontal production wells with artificial lift that will be provided by subsurface down-hole electric submersible pumps (ESP). Multiphase export booster pumps will be installed to pump oil, gas and water that will be carried by export pipelines to the existing floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for processing. Produced water will be returned after the separation process to the WHP-C for reinjection.

Facilities available at the WHP-C will include drilling facilities, utilities, power generation, living quarters and helideck.

Aker Solutions Wins Maintenance and Modifications Contract in Brazil From Equinor

Image

Aker Solutions won a framework agreement with Equinor to provide maintenance and modifications services at the Peregrino field, offshore Brazil. The contract has a fixed period of four years and includes an option for a two-year extension.

The new contract means an expansion of the more than 40 years of cooperation in the North Sea.

"We are excited to build on our strong relationship with Equinor," said Linda Litlekalsøy Aase, executive vice president, electrification, maintenance and modifications at Aker Solutions. "Together we will ensure safe and successful operations in Brazil, work to extend the lifetime of Equinor´s assets and find low-carbon solutions where possible."

Brazil is a vital market where Aker Solutions sees opportunities for several types of deliveries. The company’s strategy is to use its subsea manufacturing facilities in the country as a hub to serve both local projects and international developments.

In recent years, Aker Solutions has won several subsea contracts from Equinor, where parts of the subsea equipment are manufactured in Brazil. This includes projects such as Johan Castberg, Troll and Breidablikk in Norway.

The value of the frame agreement depends on the amount of work requested by the client. Orders will be booked as they are received. No order intake will be booked at this stage.

The Peregrino field is Equinor's largest international operation outside Norway, and Phase Two involves the addition of a third fixed wellhead platform to the field, extending its main productive life and adding 250-300 million barrels in recoverable reserves.

The Peregrino oil field is located in licences BM-C-7 and BM-C-47, approximately 85 km offshore Brazil, in the Campos basin, in water depths of 100m. The second phase is expected to be developed at a cost of USD 3 billion and will start production in 2022.

Equinor restarts Peregrino field production

Production in the Peregrino field in Brazil resumed on 16 July, aiming to ramp up production and reduce emissions intensity.

Peregrino production was suspended in April 2020. Since then, Equinor has executed a major programme of maintenance, upgrades and repairs on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel and has installed a new platform, Peregrino C.

Together, these investments have allowed production to safely restart, to increase the overall capacity of the field and to improve the carbon emissions intensity.

“Our top priority is the safety of our people and our operations. The investments in technology, new equipment and maintenance have allowed us to safely resume production at Peregrino and to prepare for the start-up of the new Peregrino Phase 2 project,” says Veronica Coelho, Equinor’s country manager in Brazil.

Peregrino is the largest field operated by Equinor outside of Norway and the first of a series of major field developments in Brazil. Remaining reserves from Peregrino Phase I are estimated at 180 million barrels.

In parallel with the maintenance and upgrades on the FPSO, a third wellhead platform, Peregrino C, was installed and is progressing towards the start of production, with the first oil expected in the third quarter 2022.

The new platform is part of the Peregrino Phase II project which will extend the lifetime and value of the field and add 250-300 million barrels.

“I am proud of how hard our teams have worked, throughout the Covid pandemic, in order to bring the Peregrino field back on stream and upgrade the facilities.More than 1,200 people have been working together offshore over the last months,” adds Veronica Coelho.

In line with Equinor’s low carbon strategy, major investments have been made to reduce CO2 emissions from the Peregrino field. When in operation, Phase II will lower absolute emissions in Peregrino field by 100,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.

This will be achieved by deploying digital solutions to optimize energy consumption, in addition to gas-powered power turbines to drastically reduce and replace diesel consumption.

Located in Campos basin, Peregrino field started production in 2011. Equinor is the operator (60%), with Sinochem (40%) as partner in the field. Peregrino Phase I consists of a FPSO unit, supported by two well head platforms - Peregrino A and Peregrino B. Peregrino II consists of a well head platform – Peregrino C – and related facilities.
